Grants
Kenrick Cato, PhD, assistant professor, is the principal investigator of a $2.6 million, 5-year R01 grant entitled, “Communicating Narrative Concerns Entered by RNs (CONCERN).” The grant, funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research of the National Institute of Health, is to design and evaluate a SMARTapp to expose physicians and nurses to a predictive data source from nursing documentation in electronic health records.
Suzanne Bakken, alumni professor of nursing and professor of biomedical informatics, is the principal investigator and program director of a 5-year competitive renewal of the Columbia University School of Nursing T32 Institutional Pre- and Post-doctoral training grant, “Reducing Health Disparities Through Informatics,” funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research of the National Institute of Health for $1.9 million, which will support the program through its 20th consecutive year.

Jacqueline Merrill, PhD, professor in biomedical informatics, Penelope Buschman, MS, FAAN, assistant professor of clinical nursing, and Jasmine Travers, PhD, ’16, were co-authors of “An Efficient Nurse Practitioner-Led Community-Based Service Model for Delivering Coordinated Care to Persons With Serious Mental Illness at Risk for Homelessness,” published in Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
Tonda Hughes, PhD, director, Global Health Research, was the senior author of “Victimization in Adulthood Mediates the Relationship Between Childhood Victimization and Smoking in Hetero Sexual and Sexual Minorities,” published in Nicotine and Tobacco Research.

Rita Marie John, DNP, director of pediatric primary care nurse practitioner program, has been selected as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP).
