Overview

Isper Crissey PhD, RN, has worked in psychiatric and mental health nursing for over 25 years. She has extensive psychiatric inpatient experience from various hospitals, such as Central State Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and New York Presbyterian Hospital. During those times, she worked as a staff nurse, nurse clinician, nurse manager, and patient care director. 

Crissey began her career in nursing education by taking various assignments at different nursing schools within the New York Metropolitan area as an adjunct professor and as a preceptor at the Columbia University School of Nursing. During her tenure as a faculty member at Mercy College, she participated in the Pedagogy Fellowship. As a fellow, she tirelessly worked on committees that focused on improving diversity, equality, and inclusivity in higher education. She is committed to fostering inclusive and engaging classroom environments. 

Crissey completed her Master’s in Science in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and her PhD in Nursing from Pace University's Leinhard School of Nursing. Her areas of interest are psychiatric nursing, individuals with serious mental illness and mental health literacy. Crissey is a Jonas scholar and a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International. She joined Columbia University School of Nursing in January 2023.
