Research

Fabiana Cristina Dos Santos, PhD, MSN, RN, is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Columbia University School of Nursing, and her research program focuses on the intersection of leveraging nursing informatics tools to improve patient-centered healthcare.

Her research focused on leveraging structured data from electronic health records (EHR) to measure the impact of nursing care on the health outcomes of chronically ill patients. By analyzing EHR data, she aims to enhance the understanding of how nursing interventions influence physical, psychological, and spiritual patient outcomes. Her research also targets designing and testing clinical decision support systems to assist patients and clinicians in making decisions regarding symptom management, health promotion, and disease prevention.

The long-term goal of her research program is to reduce health disparities in care for chronically ill patients by leveraging well-designed digital technologies and AI implications, particularly for underrepresented populations. Additionally, she aims to develop advanced clinical decision support systems that empower both patients and nurses to make informed care decisions.
