Overview

Ching-Yu "Samuel" Wang is a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University School of Nursing, under the mentorship of Rebecca Schnall. His research focuses on health disparities within the sex and gender minority (SGM) population and the impacts of firearm-related violence. Wang is committed to exploring systemic barriers to health equity and contributing to efforts that improve care for underserved communities.

Wang earned his PhD in Nursing from the University of Utah College of Nursing, where his dissertation examined social risk screening processes in emergency departments. He also holds a Master's degree in Nursing Informatics, which has shaped his interest in the intersection of technology and healthcare. In addition to his research, Wang has taught system development and analysis at the graduate level, a role he values for its opportunity to support and inspire future healthcare leaders. His academic and teaching experiences are informed by his clinical background as an emergency department nurse, where he gained firsthand insight into the needs of vulnerable populations.
