  • Maureen George was among the authors of “Development of a Smartphone Application for Korean Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Self-Monitoring Based Action Plans,” published in Applied Nursing Research.
  • Allison Norful, PhD ’17, was among the authors of “United States Nurses’ Experiences During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Grounded Theory,” published in Journal of Clinical Nursing.   • Gregory Alexander, Kenrick Cato, PhD ’14, and Suzanne Bakken were among participants who conducted a half-day preconference workshop titled “Exploring Mechanisms to Examine Racial Biases Within a Learning Health System Framework (sponsored by the Nursing Informatics Working Group)” for the American Medical Informatics Association 2021 Annual Symposium, held in San Diego, California, Oct. 30–Nov. 3, 2021.
  • Kenrick Cato, PhD ’14, served as a panelist for the National Institute of Nursing Research’s 2021 Artificial Intelligence Virtual Boot Camp, held on Sept. 20, 2021.
  • Tonda Hughes was a speaker in the Health Equity in Action panel at the American Academy of Nursing Institute for Nursing Leadership’s (INL) Signature Event, held in Washington, DC, on Oct. 7, 2021.
  • Nancy Reame was presented a special recognition award for outstanding contributions as an editorial board member for the journal Menopause at the Annual Meeting of the North American Menopause Society, held in Washington, DC, Sept. 22–25, 2021
  • Nancy Reame and Rebecca Schnall, PhD ’09, presented “Sex Differences in Predictors of White Matter Abnormalities Among Older People Living with HIV” at the Annual Meeting of the North American Menopause Society, held in Washington, DC, Sept. 22–25, 2021.
  • Heidi Hahn-Schroeder, Judy Honig, DNP ’05, and Candice Smith presented “COVID-19 Response: An Innovative Academic Practice Partnership for Prelicensure Nursing Students” at the National League for Nursing Summit, held in Washington, DC, Sept. 23–25, 2021.
  • Cindy Veldhuis presented the keynote address titled “Intersectionality of Race, Ethnicity, and SO/GI” at UC Davis Health's LGBTQ Improving Outcomes Conference, “Intersectionality, Equity, and Inclusion: The Impact on LGBTQ+ Community Health,” held virtually on Oct. 8, 2021. Vedhuis also presented “I Drink to Change My World for a Moment: A Mixed-Methods Approach to Understanding Problematic Alcohol Use in Same-Sex/Gender Couples,” during an Emerging Addiction Seminar hosted by New York State Psychiatric Institute, held in New York.

Awards/Honors

  • Walter Bockting and Billy Caceres served on the “LGBTQ+ Guide Book Launch Celebration” panel hosted by Columbia University on Oct. 13, 2021.
  • Billy Caceres has been invited to join the editorial board of LGBT Health.
  • Judy Honig, DNP ’05, was inducted as a fellow of the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education.
  • Brenda Janotha, DNP ’08, was inducted as a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Rebecca Schnall, PhD ’09, will be inducted as a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. Additionally, she was recently awarded $437,000 by the National Cancer Institute for an R21 study titled “Development and Pilot Testing of a Just-in-Time Mobile Smoking Cessation Intervention for Persons Living with HIV.”
  • Jingjing Shang is the recipient of a $2,443,775 R01 award funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for her study titled “Disparities in Infection in Home Health and Patients/Caregivers’ Perceptions (Dis-Infection in HHC).”
