White Coat Ceremony 2024
September 26, 2024
On Friday, September 21, Columbia University School of Nursing honored 125 of its first-year DNP students with their white coats.
Mary Hickey, EdD, vice dean of education, shared what receiving her white coat signified to her at the ceremony:
“My white coat, and the expertise and professionalism it symbolizes, leveled the playing field. Wearing it meant I was an equal part of that provider network, with a seat at the table. Most important was what the white coat meant to me: that I was a nurse practitioner, confident in my skills and ready to care for patients and hold my own on the health care team."
