Columbia University School of Nursing To Hold Ribbon-Cutting Opening Celebration of Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Group In Washington Heights

WHAT:   Government officials, students, alumni, faculty, and members of the local community will gather to celebrate the opening of the Columbia University School of Nursing’s Primary Care Group in Washington Heights.  The new practice will provide integrated primary and mental health care services designed to meet the diverse health needs of the Washington Heights community. Services will include preventative health, travel health, management of chronic illness, LGBT care, and women’s health.  Columbia School of Nursing is a pioneer in nurse-practitioner led care.  Nurse practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who have completed advanced education, including a Master’s or Doctorate degree plus additional preparation and are licensed to prescribe medication.   They also focus on the “whole person” by counseling patients about lifestyle changes that can help them maintain the best health possible.

 

WHO: Lee Goldman, MD, Dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine and Chief Executive, Columbia University Medical Center; and Bobbie Berkowitz, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean, Columbia University School of Nursing, Sr. Vice President, Columbia University Medical Center will speak at a special ribbon cutting ceremony for Columbia Doctors | Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Group  in Washington Heights.
