Columbia Nursing, NYP Collaboration Continues with Quality Improvement Poster Session
On August 7, 2025, Columbia University School of Nursing and NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital held their annual quality improvement (QI) poster session, marking the end of the QI practicum. The event featured 29 posters by Columbia Nursing’s Masters Direct Entry (MDE) students.
What began in 2021 with infection surveillance projects has evolved into a broad, hospital-wide initiative allowing students to work directly with NYP’s quality and patient safety teams while developing the skills needed to lead evidence-based practice. Students learn from hospital leaders through guest lectures and apply these insights to surveillance and education efforts tied to hospital-wide quality measures.
This year, NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem also participated in the practicum, giving students an opportunity to work on pressure ulcer prevention. Across both sites, the QI projects focused on preventing central line–associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, falls, pressure injuries, and C. diff infections.
This ongoing collaboration reflects Columbia Nursing’s commitment to preparing future nurse leaders to shape safer, evidence-based care environments, an effort celebrated at this year’s poster session.
