Suzanne Bakken, DNSc and Kathleen Hickey, EdD received awards for their proposals in the planning phase of the Irving Institute's Interdisciplinary Pilot Award for studies in Clinical and Translational Research

Suzanne Bakken, DNSc, Alumni Professor of Nursing, and Kathleen Hickey, EdD, Assistant Professor of Nursing, received two of the four awards for their proposals in the planning phase of the Irving Institute's Interdisciplinary Pilot Award for studies in Clinical and Translational Research. These six month planning awards of $25,000, provide support for a newly assembled junior-senior investigative team to carry out the planning, development and submission of a translational study addressing a major health problem using cross-disciplinary approaches. To meet the goals of the Irving Institute, planning phase activities must incorporate the use of external consultants, demonstrate new cross-disciplinary collaborations and involve junior investigators in meaningful ways. The final applications will be judged both on their descriptions of planning phase activities and the actual work that is proposed. Dr. Bakken's project, in collaboration with Dr. T. Pickering is "The Applications of Information and Communication Technology for Preventing and Treating Chronic Disease" and Dr. Hickey's is "GATHER: Genetic Arrhythmia Testing Helping Evaluate Risk."
