Sally Stone '69 Receives Columbia University Alumni Medal

Sally Shipley Stone received one of this year's CU alumni medals. Mrs. Stone has been a loyal supporter of Columbia University School of Nursing and Columbia since her graduation in 1969, both of her time and resources. Married to Charles Stone (P&S '71), she lives in Connecticut and has two adult children. She is a member of the School of Nursing's Board of Visitors, where she has provided leadership and counsel to the Dean and to the School. She is also a founding member of the School's Alumni Association and has served as Regional Vice President and on the Board of Directors of this association. She has hosted numerous events for School of Nursing alumni and has been a class of 1969 representative for many years. Sally Stone has served on the Columbia University Trustee Nominating Committee from 2001-2008 and is a member of the School's capital campaign committee. This past year, she co-chaired the gala benefit honoring Mary O'Neil Mundinger as dean of the School of Nursing (and raising to date $2.2 million dollars for the Mundinger Professorship). She is currently is the alumni representative on the University's search committee for the School of Nursing's new dean.

Mrs. Stone has been a tireless leader who has worked to bring all alumni together and to embrace our common heritage in the School. There is never a task too large or too small that she will not take on and perform with grace and wisdom. She epitomizes all that Columbia and the School of Nursing represents and her loyalty and compassion for the School have never wavered. She is a perfect candidate for the Alumni Medal as a fitting recognition of all of her contributions.
