Richard Garfield, DrPH, led a team from Canada and Switzerland, to Sudan to perform preliminary survey work for the development of a tool to be used for assessment of sources of insecurity (i.e., injury, robbery, rape, etc) and monitor progress in re-establishing normalcy in countries with simmering and/or post conflicts. This important work was done with local, often illiterate, survey teams who were trained by Dr. Garfield and will have the capability of replication to other countries.
