Grants

Adriana Arcia, PhD, assistant professor, received a $25,000 award from the Provost’s Grant Program for Junior Faculty Who Contribute to the Diversity Goals of the University for “Feasibility and Acceptability of an Online Maternity Education Platform.”

 

Rebecca Schnall, PhD, assistant professor, received a $300,000 grant from the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) for her study “Use of mHealth Technology for Supporting Symptom Management in Underserved Persons Living with HIV.”

 

Publications

Dawn Dowding, PhD, VNSNY Professor of Nursing, wrote the guest editorial “Using Health Information Technology to Support Evidence-Based Practice,” published in Worldviews in Evidence Based Nursing.

 

Sarah Iribarren, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, was the lead author of “Qualitative Evaluation of an mHealth Intervention to Support Patients with Active Tuberculosis: Implementation Considerations,” published in JMIR mHealth and uHealth. In addition, she was an author of “Conducting Nursing Research in Low and Middle-Income Countries: Lessons from the Field,” published in Nursing Outlook and “Evaluation of a BCMA’s Electronic Medication Administration Record,” published in Western Journal of Nursing Research.

 

Rita John, DNP, EdD, director, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, was an author of “Understanding and Managing Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency,” published in The Journal for Nurse Practitioners.

 

Nancy Reame, PhD, FAAN, Mary Dickey Lindsay Professor of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, was the lead author of “Equalizing Equol for Hot Flash Relief? Still More Questions than Answers,” published in Menopause.

 

Rebecca Schnall, PhD, assistant professor and Sarah Iribarren, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, were the lead authors of “A Review and Analysis of Existing Mobile Phone Applications for HAI Prevention,” published in American Journal of Infection Control.

 

Presentations and Honors

Sally Aboelela, PhD, assistant professor, received the Presidential Teaching Award from Columbia University’s Office of the Provost.

 

Brenda Janotha, DNP, assistant professor, presented “Building Virtual Teams: Team-based Learning Pedagogy on a Distance Education Platform,” at the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty 41st Annual  meeting and a poster “Using Team-based Learning Pedagogy to Improve Student Performance in Nursing Health Assessment,” at Team-Based Learning Consortium.

 

Kathleen Hickey, EdD, FAAN, assistant professor, was named a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. In addition, she presented “Clinical and Gender Differences in Heart Transplant Recipients in the New Heart Study," at the 35th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.

 

Rita John, DNP, EdD, director, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, presented: “What's New In Pediatric Health care,” at New York National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners annual conference.

 

Rachel Maki, MS, PHMNP, instructor, presented “Strengths- Based Approaches in Engaging and Treating Clients” at The Ali Forney Center in Harlem to 25 staff members who work with LGBTQ homeless youth.

Alice Bonner ’81 was appointed Massachusetts Secretary of Elder Affairs and Commissioner of the Department of Transitional Assistance.
