Grants

PhD student Catherine Cohen received a $5,000 grant from Eastern Research Nursing Society/The Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science for her research “Multidrug Resistant Organism Infection and Isolation Practices in Nursing Homes.”

 

Publications

PhD student Catherine Cohen was the lead author of "Infection Prevention and Control in Nursing Homes: A Qualitative Study of Decision-Making Regarding Isolation-Based Practices,” published in BMJ Quality and Safety. Associate Research Scientist Eileen Carter, PhD, and Centennial Professor in  Health Policy Pat Stone, PhD, FAAN, were also authors.

 

Ruth Masterson Creber, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, was the lead author of “Identifying Biomarker Patterns and Predictors of Inflammation and Myocardial Stress,” published in Journal of Cardiac Failure.

 

Alsacia Pacsi, DNS, postdoctoral research fellow, was the lead author of “Understanding the Experience of Dominican American Women Living With Late-Stage Breast Cancer: A Qualitative Study,” published in Hispanic Health Care international.

 

Pat Stone, PhD, FAAN, Centennial Professor in  Health Policy, was the lead author of “Understanding Infection Prevention and Control in Nursing Homes: A Qualitative Study,” published in Geriatric Nursing. Associate Research Scientist Eileen Carter, PhD,  was also an author. Stone was also an author of "Psychometric Evaluation of an Instrument for Measuring Organizational Climate for Quality: Evidence from a National Sample of Infection Preventionists," published in American Journal of Medical Quality along with Rebecca Schnall, PhD, assistant professor.

 

Presentations and Honors

 

Jeanne Churchill, DNP, assistant professor, presented “Narrative Writing in Nursing Education “ at the First International Conference on Nursing Education and Research in Athens, Greece.

 

Jennifer Dohrn, DNP, director, Office of Global Initiatives, was named adjunct faculty member at the University of Malawi Kamuzu College of Nursing.

 

Rita John, EdD, DNP, director, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, presented “What's New for Pediatrics 2015,” at the NY Hospital Queens Grand Rounds.

 

Jeffrey Kwong, DNP, director, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program, was named a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. In addition, he presented “HIV Treatment & Prevention: An Update for Primary Care Nurse Practitioners” at the 2015 AANP National Conference.

 

Marlene McHugh, DNP, assistant professor, presented “Systemic Palliative Care Education Focusing On The Full Trajectory Of Illness At An Academic Medical Center In An Urban Underserved Community,” at the Hospice Palliative Care Association of New York State (HPCANYS) in Albany, NY.
 

Briefs

 

Arlene Smaldone, PhD, assistant dean for scholarship and research, was appointed to a new interdisciplinary appointment as associate professor in Dental Behavioral Sciences (in Dental Medicine) at CUMC.


Martha Cohn Romney ’81 received the Award for Teaching Excellence in from the School of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University.
