Publications

Mary Byrne, Stone Foundation and Elise D. Fisch Professor of Health Care for the Underserved and Professor of Anesthesiological Sciences, was the lead author of “Prison Nursery Co-Residence and Re-entry,” and “Attachment Versus Bonding: What’s the Difference?” published in Healthy Generations.

 

Dawn Dowding, PhD, VNSNY Professor of Nursing, was an author of a response to “Using Realist Reviews to Understand How Health IT Works, For Whom, and in What Circumstances,” published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.

 

Jeffrey Kwong, DNP, director, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, was the lead author of “Expanding Capacity for Hepatitis C Treatment in the United States: Team Based Care and use of Non Physician Providers,” published in the Journal of the International Association of Providers in AIDS Care.

 

Presentations and Honors

Suzanne Bakken, PhD, Alumni Professor of Nursing and Professor of Biomedical Informatics, moderated “Health Literacy and Consumer Facing Technology:  A Workshop,” at the Institute of Medicine. Rebecca Schnall, PhD, assistant professor, presented in the session.

 

Dean Bobbie Berkowitz, PhD, RN, FAAN, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Mahidol University, Thailand at the third annual International Conference and Management of Chronic Conditions in Bangkok.

 

Catherine Cohen, predoctoral fellow, was selected as a 2015 recipient of the ENRS/CANS Dissertation Award by the Eastern Nursing Research Society Awards committee.

 

Jennifer Dohrn, DNP, director of Global Initiatives, presented “Identifying Gaps in Clinical Nursing and Midwifery Research in African Countries: Making a Way Forward with Sustainable Mentorship,” at the Consortium of Universities in Global Health Sixth Annual Conference, Boston, MA.

 

Amanda Hessels, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, was the keynote speaker at the Saint Clare's Health System (Catholic Health Initiatives) Annual Nursing Research Conference in Denville, NJ. She presented “The Impact of Technology on the Delivery and Quality of Patient Care.”

 

Brenda Janotha, DNP, assistant professor, presented a poster, “Using Team-based Learning Pedagogy to Improve Student Performance in Nursing Health Assessment,” at the Team-based Learning Consortium in St. Petersburg, Florida.

 

Rita John, DNP, EdD, director, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, presented a review course for the Pediatric Mental Health subspecialty at the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners conference.  In addition, she was the keynote speaker at New Jersey School Nurse Association annual conference.

 

Jeffrey Kwong, DNP, director, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program,  presented “HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis: Case Challenges" at the Erie County Health Department, in Buffalo, NY,  “HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis in Serodiscordant Couples and in Pregnancy,” at Johns Hopkins University's 25th Annual Clinical Care of the Patient with HIV Infection and Care of Patients with Viral Hepatitis conference.

 

Briefs

Gloves4Gloves, an initiative created by doctoral students to raise money for Ebola care in Africa was recognized at an Adelphi University gala.

 

Four DNP alumni, Mary Lynn Dunne ’14, Melissa Kramps ’04 ’13, Nicole Holuba Le Marca ’10 ’13, and Michelle Peters ’07 ’09 ’12, participated in a “Real Talk” panel discussion with students about life after Columbia Nursing.
