Columbia University School of Nursing Welcomes Stephen Ferrara as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs

(NEW YORK, NY, August 4, 2014) -- Columbia University School of Nursing is pleased to announce that Stephen Ferrara, DNP, FAANP, FNP-BC, has been hired as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs. Ferrara will serve as assistant professor and oversee the Columbia Advanced Practice Nurse Associates, one of the premier nurse-run primary care services in the nation.

He comes to Columbia Nursing with a rich background in clinical practice, public policy, and education. Previously, he worked as a family NP at Montefiore Medical Center and as an associate adjunct professor at Pace University, where he earned his doctorate. In addition, he is Executive Director for the Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State, where he successfully advocated for the passage of the state’s NP Modernization Act, a law that lets experienced NPs practice for the first time without physician supervision.

“I look forward to supporting Columbia’s commitment to advanced practice nursing and to educating the next generation of leaders in clinical care,” says Ferrara. “Advanced practice nurses have more opportunities than ever before to provide comprehensive, holistic care to patients, families, and communities.”
